How it works

  1. 1A few things appear on screen, one after another.
  2. 2Your child counts them and taps the matching number.
  3. 3The right answer is spoken back so the number gets attached to the amount.
  4. 4Wrong answers stay on screen to try again.

What it builds

Recognising digits, hearing their names and writing them — the groundwork before any arithmetic.

Nothing in counting stars can be lost or failed. A wrong answer stays on screen to try again, which is what keeps a two-year-old in the game long enough to learn from it.

Common questions

What age is Counting stars for?+

It is pitched at 3 to 6 year olds, though children either side of that often enjoy it too. Nothing is timed, so a younger child can simply take longer.

Do I need to install anything?+

No. Kidling runs entirely in the browser on a phone, tablet or laptop. There is no app to download and no store account involved.

Is it free?+

You can play without an account. A subscription unlocks the full personalised plan, the weekly worksheet packs and progress tracking.

Are there ads?+

No. There is no advertising anywhere in the product and nothing that links a child out of it.
